What You MUST Know About Feng Shui Elements

The feng shui elements of Wood, Fire, Metal, Water & Earth are more than just the Chinese traditional way of classifying nature.

They are also important tools to create a desirable living and working place because they are energies of the nature and basic components that constitute all matters in the universe.

These elements manifest in buildings (house and office both applicable) and individuals but are rarely balanced. A surfeit or lack of one element will result in a lack of balance and harmony.

"Glen, so what if the elements are out of balanced?"

We have an intimate relationship with our living space. The feng shui elements interact with our Chi so naturally prolong exposure to negative energy affects our health, career, wealth and relationship with our loves one.

Isn’t wealth, career, health, relationship in harmony few of the most important things we seek for in life?

"Do you like to receive good fortune and harmony in your home, office, business or life?"

I do!! And I believe you do too! Join me to get into the feng shui elements basics then.

Let’s look at the feng shui elements chart……

Feng Shui Elements Chart

feng shui elements

This is a simple yet powerful chart containing wealth of ancient wisdom within. It tells you exactly how the elements are interrelated and interact with one another.

With knowledge of the cycles put you in control. You will know how to do the correct elemental mix and bring the room back in perfect harmony.

To put it simply…

  1. Productive cycle – Harmonious relationship between elements. One element gives birth to the other.
  2. Weakening cycle – Hostile relationship between elements. One element exhausting the other.
  3. Destructive cycle - Hostile relationship between elements. One element destroying the other.

The weakening and destructive cycles are similar in effect. They differ in intensity. Using the destructive cycle to lessen the effect of an element is a bolder remedy

You would have realized from the elements chart that there is no so call “best element” to perfect harmony. Elements are neither bad nor good in themselves but they need to be balanced within a room for it to be inviting.

Yeah! Balancing the elements is the key.

But how?

You will need to have a main and dominating element and a second less predominating element with splashes of the other three elements.

Remember all 5 elements should be represented within a space. So migrate and reduce the over abundance elements and introduce elements that are absence.

Here are a few tips:

  • Check the large area first. With this, I mean the wall, floor and ceiling. Take for instance; your room is painted green with wooden flooring means that the predominating element, wood may be overwhelming in the room.
  • Next is to reduce/migrate the overwhelming element.

Any element can be the main dominating element but it should not be overwhelming.

You can remove some of the wood associating items from the room. Add fire element (eg lamp, artwork of pyramid or obelisks or crystals like ruby) to reduce the wood element or metal element (eg any metallic object, circular shaped objects or crystals like hematite) to tone down the effect of the wood element.

Be careful with the usage of water element. Make sure it is of appropriate amount since too much water element will aggravate the overabundance of the wood element.

  • Introduce sparsely other elements to keep the room balanced.

My suggestion is to move from element to element following the productive cycle starting from the wood element.

One Tasteful Way to Balance Up the Feng Shui Elements…

Blend crystals with other objects or furniture into your living or working space. Incorporate crystals as part of the room decoration.

A wise selection and strategic placement of crystals may help to balance up the elements and improve the room aesthetically.

Again, the key is to keep the space balanced.
