Most people require several minutes to ease into the meditative state. That will give you at least a few minutes to deepen your concentration and expand your awareness.
20-30 minutes
This is the ideal meditation duration. You can have sufficient time to settle into a focus and relax state of mind.
By now, you may have realized that, it all depends on you. There is no hard and fast rule to meditation duration.
Aim for 20 to 30 minutes per session if you can.
A word of advice: Keep your practice consistent and steady rather than to meditate exhaustively in 1 day and to stop complete for the rest of the week.
You may consider using a timer with soothing gentle ring over a blasting alarm just to keep track of your meditation duration.
Certainly you won’t want to be shocked to waking consciousness, would you? :)
"Glen, when is the best time to meditate?"
Ask yourself, “When do your energy usually hit the peak?”
Is it early in the morning? Near lunch time? In the evening after shower?
Meditate when your energy is reasonably high. You see, meditation involves channelling energy to focus. If you are in an energy slump, you will probably just ZZzzzzzz…
But meditating within an hour after meal can be quite a challenge. Working to digest and focus with a full stomach at the same time can be energy draining.
Some suggest 3 times per day or during early in the morning when your mind is fresh. Others, to do it during mid day for recuperation and to proceed with the rest of the day refreshed and energized.
I must say, “You are the best judge!” Observe the difference in the texture of your meditative experience and decide on a schedule that fit you best.
