Preparation and Treatment methods with Aromatherapy Oils

Before sharing with you the 6 treatment methods with aromatherapy oils, let’s look into 2 ways you can adopt to prepare your aromatherapy oils.

Preparing your aromatherapy oils

Diluting – Pure essential oils are too concentrated for immediate usage. If you intent to perform you own dilution, here’s what you should do.

  • Choose a suitable carrier oil or lotion.
  • Measure 30ml carrier oil or 5 teaspoons of lotion and place into an empty container.
  • Add 10 drops of essential oils into the container.
  • Mix the essential oils and carrier oil or lotion thoroughly.
  • Keep the container closed tightly when not in use.

Blending – You can keep the mixture ready by pre blending them. Keep it to a maximum of 4 oils type so as to maintain the quality of the oils. Depending on your needs, select the oils of your choice. Put 20 drops of each oil type into a 10ml brown bottle. Mix well and label accordingly.





Treatment Methods with Aromatherapy Oils

Gargling method – Mix the recommended oils with ½ glass of water. Gargle and spit out. Thoroughly rinse the mouth with clean water after each treatment.

Inhalation method – Inhalation of essential oils brings speedy relief to respiratory and stress related problem. There are various inhalation methods described as follows,

  • Direct Inhalation - Apply the prescribed oils onto a tissue. Inhale deeply 3 times. Close your eyes during inhalation.
  • Steam Inhalation – Add 3 to 4 drops of essential oils to a basin of steaming water. Lean over the basin and inhale deeply several times. For more effective treatment, cover your head with a towel. Caution: Do not use this method if you are suffering from asthma.
  • Use Nasal Inhaler.

As Bath Oil – Add between 6 to 8 drops to a warm bath. If you have dry skin, mix the essential oil and Jojoba oils before adding to the water (mix 8 drops of essential oils to 10 ml of Jojoba oils). Soak in the bath between 10 to 20 minutes.

Direct Application – This method is commonly use to treat skin condition. If you are using concentrated essential oil, dilute the essential oil with Jojoba oils before usage. Keep to the ratio of 20 drops of essential oil to 60 ml of Jojoba oil (unless otherwise stated).

Jojoba oil is suitable for all skin types making the most popular choice as the carrier oil.

Compress – Make use of a piece of non medicated lint, clean cotton wool or cloth prepared to size. Soak the compress in a combination of water and essential oils. Squeeze it gently and apply over the affected area for at least 2 hours.

This is best suited for soothing aches, sprains or swelling. Use hot water to prepare your compress (ie hot compress) for muscular aches and cold compress for sprains and headaches.

Massage – Helps to accentuate the therapeutic effect of the essential oils. Combining with the effect of massage, the outcome can be wondrous.

Take a couple of minutes to relax. Perform a few deep inhalation can help. Use between half to a full tea spoon of oil. Pour it onto the palm and rub your hand together to heat up and evenly spread out the oil. Concentrate on using your palm for massaging. Apply sufficient pressure and massage on the affected area.
